According to Deshgujarat, an Indian anti-corruption court has sentenced 14 individuals to life imprisonment, including 11 police officers and a former legislator from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for kidnapping an Indian businessman and extorting cryptocurrency. The court found the group guilty of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping for ransom, illegal detention, and assault. It is reported that Indian businessman Shailesh Bhatt recovered some of his investments in the form of Bitcoin after the collapse of his investment in BitConnect company. However, upon learning of his recovered investments, the officials mentioned above plotted a kidnapping scheme to seize the cryptocurrency, and Shailesh Bhatt was only released after agreeing to transfer some Bitcoin and $3.6 million in cash.
