In a shocking development, crypto venture capitalist Mehdi Farooq at Hypersphere revealed on X platform that he fell victim to a Zoom meeting phishing attack, resulting in six crypto wallets being emptied and losing 'years of savings'. The attack began with a familiar acquaintance 'Alex Lin' scheduling a meeting via Telegram, then insisting on switching to Zoom Business version for compliance reasons and tricking Farooq into downloading malicious updates. Farooq mentioned that during the attack, the hacker continued to communicate through Telegram pretending to have a normal conversation, even joking 'see you in Singapore'. It was later confirmed that his real account had been compromised, and the attack may be linked to the North Korean hacker group 'dangrouspassword'.
