Bahbah, who is mediating regionally with Egypt and Qatar, expressed optimism about the prospects of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas as the Gaza issue returns to the top of the regional agenda following the ceasefire with Egypt. However, a senior Arab diplomat revealed that Israel's refusal to commit to permanently ending the war has dampened the optimism.
The diplomat pointed out that Israel has only proposed releasing hostages in stages during a temporary ceasefire, but the order of releases is not a key issue preventing an agreement.
