According to multiple sources, Binance founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ) has been granted a pardon by President Trump.
In March of this year, the Wall Street Journal reported that Binance was discussing injecting funds into Trump's family's cryptocurrency project, World Liberty Financial, in exchange for CZ's pardon. It was also mentioned that negotiations were underway for Trump's family to invest in Binance's US subsidiary, Binance.us. However, CZ denied these claims at the time. In May, CZ announced that he had applied for a pardon from Trump.
In May 2024, in a US federal court, CZ was sentenced to 4 months in prison for money laundering violations and breaching US sanctions, and was released in September.
Although CZ has served his sentence and paid a hefty fine, a presidential pardon will not completely erase the charges, but it may restore some rights, such as potentially allowing CZ to return to the management of Binance.
