Hong Kong Stock Exchange Implements New Stock Settlement Fee Structure Today

According to Jinshi data, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange is implementing a new stock settlement fee structure starting today (30th), completely breaking the previous limit of a minimum of 2 Hong Kong dollars and a maximum of 100 Hong Kong dollars. This adjustment is related to the policy of lowering the minimum price change unit in the Hong Kong market. Under the new standard, the cost of small trades for investors will significantly decrease. Previously, due to the existence of the minimum fee limit, the cost of trading was relatively high for small trades. For example, for a 1000 Hong Kong dollar trade, the minimum fee was 2 Hong Kong dollars, with a fee rate of 0.2%. After the adjustment, the fee rate is 0.0042%, which is 0.042 Hong Kong dollars, resulting in a significant cost reduction. Additionally, with the removal of the minimum and maximum fee limits, institutional investors can more accurately calculate trading costs, optimize trading strategies, and better control costs when conducting large-scale trades. Furthermore, after the new regulations, fees will still be charged on both the buy and sell sides.
