According to CoinDesk, CertiK's Hack3d report reveals that the cryptocurrency industry suffered losses exceeding $24.7 billion in the first half of 2025 due to hacks and scams, surpassing the total for the entire year of 2024. Vulnerabilities in Bybit and Cetus Protocol resulted in combined losses of $17.8 billion. Wallet breaches were the main cause, leading to $17 billion in losses, while phishing attacks resulted in a total of $4.1 billion in losses from 132 incidents. Ethereum was the most frequently targeted chain, with 164 incidents and losses of $15 billion. However, total losses in the second quarter were $8.01 billion, a 52% decrease from the previous quarter.
