State-By-State Unemployment Rate Shows Protests and COVID-19 Have Major Influence

Summary: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics updated on June 19, the unemployment rates for states, which shows that the unemployment rate in May has fallen in 43 states across the U.S. States with the most significant drop in Mississippi, Kentucky, and Indiana, with at least over 5% decrease.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics updated on June 19, the unemployment rates for states, which shows that the unemployment rate in May has fallen in 43 states across the U.S. States with the most significant drop in Mississippi, Kentucky, and Indiana, with at least over 5% decrease.

The unemployment rate rose in five states. The highest increase of 1.2% happened in Minnesota, the center of recent protests.  

Based on the COVID-19 tracking map of John Hopkins University, the unemployment rate is closely related to the severity of the disease. States with a smaller population and fewer cases of coronavirus have lower unemployment rates.
