【China: What can we learn from the US on blockchain application?】
On March 29, the People's Post and Telecommunications published an article: "What can we learn from the blockchain regulation in the United States?".
The article points out that the United States has brought some useful enlightenments to China on the application of blockchain technology: First, it’s important to research and study the blockchain problem before any execution. The development of blockchain is still in its early stages, and the definitions, characteristics, applications, risks and challenges are still evolving. Early research on policies, technical characteristics, applications, applicability, etc. should be carried out in advance, and pilot projects and proof-of-concepts should be carried out in key areas to establish a basis for timely and appropriate intervention in blockchain control to avoid regulatory vacancy or over-regulation.
Second, we need a guide to the rational development of the industry. Blockchain as a current trending technology has some excessive hypes, so it is necessary to develop guidance on the basis of relevant research.
The third point is to pay attention to blockchain security risks and enhance pre-assessment. The decentralized, non-deletable features of the blockchain may pose security risks in areas such as cross-border data flow, content management, network security, critical infrastructure protection, personal privacy protection, and user rights. Although the US government has no control over blockchain technology, it has passed legislation to pre-evaluate the national security risks that blockchain may bring. China should also carry out pre-assessment of key security areas as early as possible, and deploy preventive measures in advance.
