Google Update Forces CCN Shutdown

CCN due to a recent Google update has been forced to shutdown. Google’s June 2019 Core Update was released on June 3, 2019 and has caused a massive commotion in the cryptocurrency journalism world. Top cryptocurrency news outlets are seeing big drop in their search traffic from Google since the update.

The drop has affected major cryptocurrency outlets like CCN and CoinDesk. CCN’s traffic from Google searches took a sudden plunge when the fell more than 71% on mobile overnight. The leader in blockchain news, CoinDesk, has experienced a 34.6% drop in their searches.

The sudden drop is forcing CCN to shutdown the site and they’re moving over to HVY.com in an attempt to save the jobs of their employees. CCN is and award winning site that has been one of the top cryptocurrency sites for years.

The sites seeing these sudden drops have stated that they’re asking Google for help, but the help hasn’t been very helpful. Sites have been told a range of things from website layout, the advertisements they show to having “clickbait titles”. Even Google themselves have admitted they don’t fully understand how the RankBrain works.

However, cryptocurrency sites are the only ones being affected. DailyMail has also seen a massive drop in search results and complained. The day after the broad core algorithm’s newest update DailyMail faced a huge drop off in Search traffic from Google of around 50% of their daily traffic. DailyMail stated this drop occurred over the course of 24-hours in which no changes had been made to the site. 

CCN in a recent post is claiming the drop-offs to be a case of Google targeting right wing politics. The site raised a call to arms for all media sites and organizations to fight back against Google.
