According to a petition filed by E-Gold’s former directors on Tuesday, the federal government unlawfully concealed a 2006 review from Florida's Office for Financial Regulation (OFR) which was crucial evidence in a 2008 landmark case so they "could make an example" out of E-Gold.

The case has since shaped the cryptocurrency industry by extending the definition of "money transmitter" in the U.S. to include any system that stored and transferred value.
