Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake said in a Reddit forum on Friday, July 10 that Ethereum 2.0 may not be ready to launch until January 2021, contradicting the Foundation's push for a 2020 release.

The Ethereum 2.0 launch marks the blockchain's switch from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. The project has been delayed numerous times, but the Foundation has assured the community that it is on track for a 2020 release.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin responded to Drake's post in the Reddit forum, countering that phase 0 should launch regardless of readiness level. He also argued that Ethereum 1.0 did not take as long and that there is no reason for Ethereum 2.0 to take longer.
