YouTube has moved to dismiss a lawsuit filed against the video-streaming platform by leading crypto company Ripple, according to a motion filed on Monday, July 20.

Ripple sued YouTube in April arguing the company should have done more to protect users from XRP giveaway scams on the site. Monday's motion counters the suit using section 230 of the Communications Decency Act — the same clause that has recently come under fire from U.S. President Donald Trump amid his ongoing battle with Twitter — to argue that YouTube is not liable for its users' posts.

The motion goes on to argue that YouTube was also a victim of the scammers since users accounts were hacked. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak filed a similar suit against YouTube for allowing Bitcoin scams using his face to proliferate on the site.
