While discussing his plans to attend the virtual opening ceremony for the Colorado State Lottery GameJam Hackathon Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin stated that Ethereum 2.0's verifiable randomness function could be helpful for lotteries, as reported by Cointelegraph.

Chainlink announced that it would bring the verifiable randomness function to Ethereum 2.0 on May 11. Chainlink believes the feature has potential for use in the gaming industry and while the Colorado State Lottery won't be using Ethereum this time around, similar lotteries may soon begin utilizing the technology.

Integrating blockchain into the systems of lotteries and games would help more people to learn about the technology and could help pull it into the mainstream.
