Published on August 6, a report from crypto analytics firm Chainalysis suggests that North American investors play more conservatively than investors from other regions. The report also shows that the North American crypto market is currently dominated by professional sectors, while the increasing dominance is “almost entirely” driven by institutional investors—a signal of many legitimizing cryptocurrencies as an asset class.
As for North American investors’ strategy, the report finds that they vastly favor Bitcoin, which accounts for 72% of all transaction volume. Compare to Bitcoin’s overwhelming popularity in North America, BTC’s share of value in East Asia only accounts for 51%, with Altcoins making up 16% and Stablecoin making up 33%.
On top of that, the report suggests that NA-based investors are trading their coins at a lower frequency than those in East Asia, according to six crypto exchanges’ database. Balances of addresses data from Chainalysis also shows that NA investors tend to buy and then hold cryptocurrencies.
The report concluded that North American-based investors engage with the market more conservatively, often waiting for their digital assets to accumulate.
