California's attorney general, Xavier Becerra, warned the public about the dangers of crypto scams in an announcement on Friday, August 7. 

Becerra's statement alluded to the July 15 Twitter hack where hackers took over prominent accounts to advertise a Bitcoin scam which promised victims that for any sum invested, double would be returned to them. 
Becerra singled out six common scams including ponzi schemes, mining scams, fraudulent coin offerings, and fake exchanges or wallets.
