In a message signed by Marine administrative on July 28, cryptocurrency mining applications are prohibited for all users who possess government-furnished equipment (GFE) mobile devices.

Hackers have always been trying to implant malware into mining devices and cryptojack computers. Additionally, mining on a government device could be categorized as using government resources for personal gain.

According to the official message posted on the U.S. Marine Corps website, bitcoin/cryptomining tools are “inappropriate for GFE issued devices” on account of certain apps’ “privacy and security concern”. The management server will automatically remove prohibited applications from devices.
