The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) is denying reports that the bank is developing a central bank digital currency (CBDC), according to an announcement from BCT.

BCT’s announcement comes after evidently fake reports were made on Nov. 7, alleging that Tunisia was the first country ready to move its national currency to blockchain platform and launch the “e-dinar.” BTC clarified that they are currently exploring digital payment options, possibly including a CBDC option, but they have not moved forward with any sort of application.
