China’s state-run CCTV1 aired a high-profile television program about blockchain on Monday that presented cryptocurrencies in a negative light.

It was made clear during the broadcast that the Chinese government will not be affording cryptocurrency the same favor that blockchain received. During the hour-long program cryptocurrency was described as a “illegal ponzi,” “financial fraud” and “illegal security.” The only cryptocurrency not named during the broadcast was Bitcoin, however, it could be assumed that it would fall under the same umbrella.
