In an August 24 announcement, the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has cleared Visa’s anticipated purchase of fintech start-up Plaid after investigating the deal’s possibility to harm competition.
Plaid is able to connect applications to a user’s bank accounts and offers payment initiation services (PIS) which allow direct real-time payments to be made via merchant websites, while Visa specializes in electronic payments.
