Iran's power company Tavanir has shut down 1,100 crypto mining farms allegedly operating without proper licensing, as reported by The Financial Tribune.

The company's report showed that there were no significant changes in energy consumption, which allowed the farms to operate unchecked. The company became aware of the illicit farms though a handful of whistleblowers who tipped the company off.

Whistleblowers who helped identify the farms were awarded 1 million rials ($480) for their assistance. Iran's laws state that miners must disclose their identities and cooperate with the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade.

Iran recently announced that power plants will be allowed to operate as Bitcoin miners if they do not use subsidized energy.
