Two House Democrats have asked the Trump administration to provide an in-depth briefing on millions of dollars worth of crypto assets recently seized by the U.S. Department of Justice from terrorist organizations, as reported on Wednesday, August 26 by The Hill.

The request was submitted by Emanuel Cleaver — chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy — and subcommittee member Josh Gottheimer. The funds were taken from lead terrorist organizations including Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Hamas and al-Qassam who were operating across hundreds of accounts. The information request noted that this was the largest ever seizure of online terrorist financing.

Cleaver and Gottheimer issued the request to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Attorney General William Barr. The congress people argue they need the information to regulate cryptocurrencies and develop policies to prevent illicit uses.
