The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil forfeiture complaint concerning two hacks of crypto exchanges by North Korean perpetrators, according to a statement on Thursday, August 27 from the agency.

The statement claims that the criminals stole the funds and then laundered them through Chinese over-the-counter crypto traders. The hackers used over 280 accounts to carry out their illicit activity.

Today's statement seems to be connected to civil and criminal actions announced in March of this year regarding over $250 million worth of crypto stolen from exchanges by North Korean actors. Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian C. Rabbitt said that today's news strengthens the connection between crypto theft carried out by North Korean perpetrators who utilize a Chinese crypto  laundering network.
