The second version of crypto exchange Coinbase's dollar-pegged stablecoin touts gassless sends and an improved protocol to make the coin more usable than ever, according to a recent announcement.

USDC has become one of the fastest-adopted stablecoins after seeing 200% growth over the past 6 months. The coin has passed the $1.4 billion mark in market capitalization and more than $90 billion in on-chain transaction volume.

USDC's new gasless protocol means that coin users do not need to hold an Ether balance to start using the stablecoin. Instead the gas fee is delegated to another address where either developers or third-party providers can pay the fees on behalf of customers.

The USDC developers are attempting to create as few barriers to adoption as possible in the hopes that the stablecoin can become accessible to a wider pool of people.
