The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has accumulated more than $1.3 billion in regulatory penalties in the fiscal year 2019, which ended on Sept. 30.
This marks almost a 40% increase from the fiscal year 2018 figures of around $947 million, according to the CFTC Division of Enforcement’s annual report released Monday. The CFTC brought 69 actions during 2019, a small increase over the average of 67.5 in the past five fiscal years. This is the fourth largest amount of money collected in a fiscal year in the history of the CFTC.
