Today, the Afghan Ministry of Public Health has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fantom Operations, a blockchain firm, to apply blockchain technology in the country’s healthcare sector.

According to the European Asylum Support Office, there has been an issue going on about the volume of conterfeit pharmaceuticals in Afghan with many citizens using traditional medicine because it is inexpensive and accessible. Under the Memorandum’ terms, this new blockchain technology will be used to identify counterfeit medicines, create medical registries in hospitals and digitize patients’ files.
