On Nov. 29, the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the FBI announced that Ethereum developer Virgil Griffith has been arrested and charged for violating the U.S. sanctions laws and traveling to North Korea to "deliver a presentation and technical advice on using cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to evade sanctions." Griffith has been charged to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence.
