Argentina's immigration agency was targeted by a ransomware attack with organizers demanding $4 million in Bitcoin, as reported by Bleeping Computer.

When border authorities realized their computers had been compromised the agency shut down the central network to prevent the spread of the virus resulting in immigration offices and control posts being out of service for four hours. The shut down temporarily halted border crossings in or out of the country. 

A ransomware gang specializing in corporate computer attacks, NetWalker, is thought to be behind the attack. The gang hacked into the agency's systems, added passwords to their files and then demanded a ransom to restore access. The agency did not pay the ransom.
