The United States Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) criminal investigation unit signed a $249,900 contract with blockchain analytics platform to help the agency track cryptocurrency transactions, according to government documents.

The contract's effective date was Tuesday, September 9 and names Blockchain Analytics and Tax Software as the hired company. The contract comes as both law enforcement agencies and financial regulatory bodies have turned their attention towards the crypto space.

In June, both the IRS and the Department of Justice sought to purchase blockchain analytics software from Coinbase to assist during investigations. Both departments were seeking to de-anonymize cryptocurrency transactions so that the technology could not be used to protect criminal activity.
