In a conference hosted by the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR) today, Bank of France’s governor François Villeroy de Galhau stated that the bank would be testing out its own digital currency before the end of the first quarter in 2020. 

According to the Les Echos report, this new digital currency will only target private financial sector and will not involve retail payments. This initiative is expected to strengthen the efficiency of French financial system and at the same time, ensure trust in the currency.
