A new blockchain promising scalability and security to the world of DeFi, Avalanche, brought its mainnet live on Monday, September 21.

The blockchain is being developed by Ava Labs and its CEO Emin Gun Sirer. Sirer has been an outspoken member of the crypto community and frequently rallied against deception and over-hype in the blockchain and crypto industry.

Avalanche runs its own consensus protocol allowing the blockchain to run 4,500 transactions per second, according to the release. Other blockchains have slower transactions per second which can cause fees to rise as the network gets congested.

Avalanche hopes to become the favorite blockchain of individuals, enterprises, decentralized organizations, developers and token participants. The blockchain raised $42 million from its public asset offering in July.
