AMD, the Nasdaq-listed hardware manufacturer, will be undertaking a new business endeavor as it enters the blockchain gaming world.

AMD has joined the Blockchain Game Alliance, which includes gaming industry giant Ubisoft and ethereum development studio ConsenSys as members. AMD is looking to provide “high-performance computing technologies” to industry partners in and attempt “potentially transform the way games are created, published, purchased and played.”

AMD has with blockchain-based gaming marketplaces Robot Cache and Ultra, both of which will be utilizing AMD’s Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics cards.

This move comes after the company bet big on the cryptocurrency mining equipment business which once accounted for as much as 10% of its Q1 2018 revenue of $1.65 billion. However, the revenue for that venture quickly dissipated before disappearing entirely by the Q4 of 2018.
