The U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network issued an advisory on Thursday, October 1 warning about a rise in ransomware attacks reported this year.

The note highlighted that government entities along with financial, healthcare and educational institutions have been targeted by ransomware attacks.

It went on to say that sophistication and severity of these attacks is also on the rise. It added that financial intermediaries must be on the lookout because they are often processing ransom payments. The ransoms typically demand cryptocurrencies, most often Bitcoin.
