The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has filed charges against popular crypto influencer John McAfee, according to case documents.

The charges allege that McAfee boosted the prices of initial coin offering tokens without disclosing he was part of the projects. McAfee is accused of earning $23 million by promoting token sale projects he was paid to represent while denying he was paid by the issuers.

He tried to sell at least seven virtually worthless tokens to his hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers without being transparent with investors, the SEC claims.
