The group led by Ernst & Young is bidding to test the digital won. The group also includes Samsung’s blockchain and IT services division, Samsung SDS and Naver-Line. Line said earlier this week they were in talks with an unnamed Asian country on a CBDC launch.

The application deadline for participating in the pilot program was originally set on October 19, but apart from the consortium led by Ernst & Young, no other companies submitted formal applications, so BOK extended the deadline to October 29.

BOK expressed the hope that other companies can also participate in the bidding process. In addition, if no other companies bid before this date, then the bid led by Ernst & Young will be considered.
