President Donald Trump in his address to the nation following Iran’s attacks, said that the United States would be willing to “embrace peace with anybody who seeks it.”
During Trump’s speech he touted America’s military capabilities stating that, “the U.S. armed forces are stronger than ever before,” but eventually conceded that the United States does not want to put their military power to use if it is avoidable. While Trump does seem to appear ready to negotiate peace, he did imply that U.S. will be imposing heavy economic sanctions on Iran. The president also claimed that he would be asking the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to become more involved in the Middle East.
