Cryptojacking is the malicious act of infecting common devices with crypto mining malware, which allows the hacker to mine cryptocurrency using the victim’s resources. This problem has been especially prevalent for MikroTik routers across South-East Asia.

In the five months since Interpol and Trend Micro partnered up for “Operation Goldfish Alpha,” experts from national Computer Emergency Response Teams and police have been able to identify and restore over 20,000 affected routers.
