According to the official announcement, ConsenSys Software, a blockchain technology company, is cooperating with the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Commonwealth Bank, and National Australia Bank on a project to explore wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) using distributed ledger technology (DLT).

The project will involve the issuance of a proof of concept (PoC) for tokenized CBDC. Participants in the wholesale market can use Ethereum-based tokens on the DLT platform to finance, settle, and repay loans. PoC will be used to explore the meaning of "atomic" delivery-versus-payment settled on the DLT platform, as well as the programmability and automation of tokenized CBDC and financial assets.
