President of the Dallas Federal Reserve Robert Kaplan urged the US Central Bank to begin working on a digital dollar during a virtual conference hosted by Bloomberg.

“It is critical that the Fed focuses on developing a digital currency in the coming months and years,” Kaplan said.

Kaplan's remarks come one month after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said that 80% of central banks around the world are exploring the potential utility of a CBDC. A literature review of central bank digital currencies report released by the Fed on Monday recommended additional research into the intrinsic value drivers of a CBDC.
