Masayoshi Amamiya, the deputy governor of the Bank of Japan (BOJ), stated that the Bank of Japan needs to be prepared to issue digital currencies in case of rapid technical advances in settlement systems boosting public demand.

The BOJ currently has no current plans for issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) as they have found many factors still must be analyzed, such as as the impact on monetary policy and measures to ensure strict security standards.
