Bill Hinman is serving his final day as the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Division of Corporation Finance director on Friday, December 5.

Hinman has acted as director of the Division since May 2017. During his tenure, he focused on modernizing disclosure and securities offering frameworks. He also created the Strategic Hub for Innovation and Financial Technology (FinHub), which will soon become its own office.

Hinman was one of the first regulators to look into the cryptocurrencies sector and announced during a 2018 speech that digital assets with sufficiently decentralized networks, such as Ethereum, do not constitute securities.
