At 1:46 PM UTC on Friday, December 4 the Solana Mainnet Beta cluster stopped producing blocks causing network delays, according to a recent tweet from developers.

The tweet stated that the team was working with validators to restart the network and assured users that their funds were not at risk. 40 minutes after the tweet, an update was posted informing users that the cause of the outage had been identified and as of writing the network is live and functioning as normal. The restart time took around 5 hours.

Founder of Solana, Sam Bankman-Fried, responded to a tweet criticising the 5 hour restart time that the delay was because starting up Solana requires 80% stakeweight and it took that long for validators representing that much to turn their machines off and on again.
