Aave announced new upgrades to the current safety incentives in a recent blog post from integrations lead at AAVE, Marc Zeller.

The new AIP proposal has been presented to the community for a vote. The new ARC will increase the responsibility of AAVE stakers for their service protecting AAVE protocol by the formal activation of slashing. Slashing allows in the worst-case scenario for an amount to be decided to be slashed from stakers deposits.

Also among proposed upgrades are activation and reward for the Balancer Pool Token Staking and increasing safety incentives. As slashing is introduced to the network, developers feel staking rewards should reflect the new risk by increasing safety incentives to 550 AAVE per day.
