John Rolle, the Bahamas’ Central Bank governor, confirmed the rollout for the digital Bahamian dollar in the second half of 2020.

The Bahamas joins the Marshall Islands, Turkey, China, Lithuania and Japan, in committing to a state-backed digitized currency. The Central Bank governor believes that a state-backed digitized currency will “accelerate the provision of financial services needed to support business sector recovery.”
