The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says U.S. health officials are waiting for the coronavirus to become a pandemic, reports CNBC. Director of the CDC's National Center for immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Dr. Nancy Massonnier, says the CDC is working with local and state health departments to prepare for the possibility of a pandemic outbreak.
The U.S. evacuated 329 Americans this week from the Diamond Princess cruise ship which has been quarantined in Japan; the virus infected more than 600 passengers and crew. Of the 329 brought from Japan, 18 of them have tested positive for the virus and it is possible that they have not tested positive before going on evacuation sights and have been "incubating the disease."
