On Thursday leading crypto exchange Coinbase filed preliminary documents with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to launch an initial public offering, according to a recent blog post.

Speculation about Coinbase going public began months ago, but the paperwork filing comes as Bitcoin has surpassed its all-time-high price, drawing the attention of institutional investors. At the time of writing Bitcoin is trading hands at $23,234 and is up 12.29%.

“The Form S-1 is expected to become effective after the SEC completes its review process, subject to market and other conditions,” the announcement read. This is the first step of many to Coinbase going public.
