Russell Okung, a famous National Football League (NFL) player tweeted in May 2019: "Pay me in Bitcoin".

His wish will come true soon. Russell Okung will become the first athlete in a major American sports league to use Bitcoin to receive an annual salary, according to Coindesk. The agreement is implemented by the Bitcoin startup Zap, which founded by Jack Mallers, whose product Strike can convert traditional wages into BTC.

Mallers stated that Okung’s $13 million annual salary will be divided between Bitcoin and fiat at a 50:50 ratio. He also revealed that other professional athletes, including members from the Brooklyn Nets and the baseball New York Yankees, have also begun to join the program. Bitpush previously reports that Okung has invested in Bitcoin payment application Fold.
