According to an official announcement, the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) has granted a trust charter to GMO-Z.com, the first Japanese Yen stablecoin operator in the United States, to operate as a limited liability trust company.

Under the trust charter, GMO can issue, manage, and redeem the Yen and the U.S. Dollar-pegged stablecoins in New York. The Yen stablecoin will be the first of its kind to the public. Ken Nakamura, President and CEO of GMO, said: "We’re breaking ground with our move to issue the first regulated JPY-pegged stablecoin, which many see as a safe haven asset."
