In response to the charges filed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission against Ripple, the New York Southern District Court has set the trial date for the lawsuit on February 22, 2021. All parties are directed to appear for an initial pretrial conference with Judge Analisa Torres. The proceeding will be held remotely via telephone, with principal trial counsel required to appear. Pretrial conferences are typically designed to help judges organize a case and create a timeline for when pretrial activities will be carried out. The judge may also use a conference to set a tentative trial date. The regulator’s allegations have triggered a swift fallout for the digital asset, which has plummeted from about $0.60 when news of the lawsuit first broke, to $0.21 at time of publishing – a 61% decline.
