The Russian province of Abkhazia has now announced a temporary ban on crypto mining operations. The move was due to a mine in Abkhazia Province burned down due to overheating of a substation, which caused power outages in many parts of the country. The government has asked the police to shut down more than 2,400 mining rigs and multiple crypto mines. According to the ban, the government has issued instructions to all telecommunications operators in Abkhazia, requiring the necessary technical measures to be taken to prevent any relevant domain names, websites and addresses that can link crypto mining, including mineral resources, and mining data. The list will be compiled by the State Committee for Communications and will stay in place until at least June 1, 2021, when the “temporary ban” will be lifted and crypto mining is slated to become legal again.
