25% of current options open interest is favoring the March 21 expiration, data from aggregator Skew shows.

At the time of writing Ether is trading hands at $1,125 and is up 3.77%. The majority of Wednesdays trades were calls (62%) rather than puts (39%).

Vishal Shah, founder of derivatives exchange Alpha5, told CoinDesk that the March 21 expiration date pile-up correlates  with the end of the fiscal quarter and may explain why it’s taking the lion’s share of Ether options open interest.

“Quarterly expirations are typically larger than monthly, and March is now the nearest quarterly expiry,” he said.
